AFCEA International Announces The Selection Of Timothy Sample As Chairman Of Its Intelligence Committee

FAIRFAX, Va./EWORLDWIRE/Dec. 2, 2004 --- Mr. Timothy R. Sample, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, has been selected to lead the AFCEA Intelligence Committee. As the committee's chairman, he will provide leadership and direction to the members of the AFCEA Intelligence Committee, helping direct AFCEA's outreach to intelligence professionals in both government and industry.An expert in intelligence and homeland security, Mr. Sample came to General Dynamics from serving nine years on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he was Staff Director during his last three years. Before that, his intelligence career included service in the Central Intelligence Agency and the United States Air Force. During this service, Mr. Sample held senior positions that included Deputy U.S. Negotiator for the Strategic Arms Reduction Talks (START I), and Executive Director of the Director of Central Intelligence's Nonproliferation Center. Outside of government, Mr. Sample was the co-founder and first president of the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, a not-for-profit public policy research institute, where he recently became a member of its Board of Regents. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Correlation Working Group (NCWG) and on the Board of Advisors for the Security Affairs Support Association (SASA).
Mr. Sample replaces outgoing Committee Chair Mark Lowenthal. "Mark has done an outstanding job over the last three years in steering the committee, making it more active and engaged during a challenging time in our nation's history," said AFCEA International President and Chief Executive Officer VADM Herbert A. The AFCEA Intelligence Committee is comprised of forty-five government and industry intelligence professionals. Its purpose is to enhance AFCEA's outreach to the U.S. Intelligence Community, including those organizations that are customers of the Community, to cultivate a spirit of partnership between the governmental and industrial sectors. The Committee fosters the application of communications and information technology and provides forums, including symposia, meetings, and papers, for the exchange of ideas within the Community.
