The Rockefeller University To Host The Sturge-Weber Foundation Translational Research Summit

MT. FREEDOM, N.J./EWORLDWIRE/Jan. 27, 2006 --- The Rockefeller University and The Sturge-Weber Foundation (The SWF) will co-host a Translational Research Summit Planning meeting on February 3, 2006 in New York. Bruce McEwen, Ph.D., Alfred E. Mirsky Professor and head of the Harold and Margaret Milliken Hatch Laboratory of Neuroendocrinology at The Rockefeller University, The Sturge-Weber Foundation medical advisory board and invited national experts in the field will identify new areas of clinical and scientific research for The SWF research grant awards. The Natural History Study data collected over almost 20 years will also be reviewed.The Sturge-Weber Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization devoted to education and support of the one million persons and their families affected by a Port Wine Stain, Sturge-Weber and Klippel-Trenaunay syndromes.
The translational planning meeting will bring together researchers and clinicians from the fields of neurology, dermatology, ophthalmology and the National Institutes of Health to share their concerns and their vision for future research goals. Each participant will endeavor to translate their focus and areas of expertise into a common vision to increase the pace of discovery.

Neuro-endocrinology, brain imaging, tissue banking as well as neurocutaneous and vascular malformations terminology will be key areas of discussion. The SWF awards research seed grants two times a year.
