AFCEA's Homeland Security Conference Focuses On National Capital Region Threat Exercise

    For Immediate Release

FAIRFAX, Va./EWORLDWIRE/Feb. 15, 2006 --- AFCEA’s Homeland Security Conference returns to the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center, Washington, D.C., February 22-23, 2006. The conference and exposition will focus on “Homeland Security 2.0...Building Resilient Communities” and is unique because it focuses on the IT issues surrounding homeland security. The conference is designed around a scenario, and each session will address each step of the process, from prevention to response to recovery.

This multi-threat scenario includes the discovery of illegal weapons, forged licenses and terrorist plans to attack Baltimore and Washington’s metro transit systems and highways, an explosion in the Baltimore Harbor tunnel and a chemical attack in downtown Washington. This is everything Hollywood could dream up, and it will take a multi-governmental, multi-jurisdictional response effort to control the results. Each panel follows the steps involved in this scenario – from awareness and prevention through response and recovery, and will address the issues raised in the process. Throughout all four panels, attendees will be able to provide feedback and ask questions electronically. Panelists include representatives from DHS, FBI, FEMA, Maryland and Virginia emergency management agencies, DC police and Arlington County Fire Department.

The conference includes featured speakers who will share their perspective on homeland security:

    - The Honorable Dale Meyerrose, Chief Information Officer, Office of the Director of National Intelligence
    - RDML Arthur Brooks, USCG, Deputy Director of Operations, U.S. Northern Command
    - Janet Hale, Under Secretary for Management, Department of Homeland Security
    - Tom Lockwood, Director, Office of National Capital Region Coordination, Department of Homeland Security
    - Lawrence B. Prior III, President, Intelligence and Security Group, SAIC
    - Charles H. Ramsey, Chief, Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (invited)

The Solutions Showcase, with over 80 exhibits, showcases the latest homeland security technologies, including communications equipment, vehicles and emergency response systems. Exhibitors will be showing products and solutions for law enforcement, federal government, military and commercial applications. The exhibits are open to the public (on-site registration required), but there is a registration fee to attend the speakers and panel sessions.
