Nobel will present scholarships and address NSHSS members at a special recognition ceremony on May 13, 2006, in the U.S. Dirksen Senate Building in Washington, D.C. NSHSS will honor outstanding students and educators during the program. NSHSS scholarship recipients are selected on the basic of excellence in academics, leadership and community service. Kumar, a junior at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., was selected for the award from over 10,000 applicants. He was the only high school junior selected for this prestigious award this year. Nobel stated, "I am deeply honored to recognize Prakeet as one of our most outstanding students, who is not only an academic standout, but has demonstrated a deep commitment to community service. I am confident that this young scholar will someday have a major impact on our global landscape." The Nobel family established the Nobel Prizes in 1901 in order to note outstanding contributions in the fields of peace, literature, medicine, chemistry and physics. More than a century later, these internationally renowned awards continue to distinguish scientists, authors, and leaders in a world forum. Nobel wishes to continue his family legacy by encouraging young people to reach their full potential and make a real difference for mankind. About The Society Of High School Scholars The mission of The National Society of High School Scholars is to recognize and encourage academic excellence among the exceptional high school students.
