    Local Student Sarah Fersch Receives National Scholar Award

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    Virginia Beach, Virginia/EWORLDWIRE/July 21, 2003 --- Sarah Fersch, homeschooled student and Tidewater Community College student of Virginia Beach, Virginia, has been selected to receive a $1,000 National Scholar Award from The National Society of High School Scholars.

    The Society inducts outstanding high school students and honors them for superior academic achievement. Sarah was selected for the award from among 15,000 applicants.

    The final scholarship selections are based on academic performance, demonstrated leadership, community involvement, and recommendations from school personnel. The Society awards four $5,000 scholarships to members annually - two in the fall and two in the spring. There were also fourteen $1,000 National Scholar Awards announced this year.

    Claes Nobel, honorary chairman of the Society, stated, "I am deeply honored to recognize Sarah as one of the nation's most outstanding students."

    As senior member of the Nobel Prize family, Claes Nobel extends his family's dedication to excellence to the youth of today. Claes' family established the Nobel Prizes in 1901 in order to note outstanding contributions in the fields of peace, literature, medicine, chemistry, and physics. More than a century later, these internationally renowned awards continue to distinguish scientists, authors, and leaders in a world forum.
