AUBURN, Wash./EWORLDWIRE/Aug. 23, 2006 --- Forest Concepts, L.L.C. announced their move from Campus Park in Federal Way to a much larger facility at West Park Industrial Complex on West Valley Highway in Auburn that will enable significantly increased production of their patented WoodStraw(TM), an award winning, innovative wood mulch used for soil erosion prevention. With the high number of wildfires this year across the western states, the increased production will afford the U.S. Forest Service the opportunity to treat more of the burned out areas with WoodStraw for soil erosion prevention in their rehabilitation efforts. Jim Dooley, chief technology officer, founder of Forest Concepts and inventor of WoodStraw, states, "We are currently working extremely hard to fill a 500 ton order for WoodStraw from the USFS Region 4 for forest fire rehab, and, due to our limited capacity we have not been in a position to accept any new orders. The increased production capability of WoodStraw at West Park will enable the company to now begin accepting new orders and meet the increasing demand for the wood mulch that is setting new performance standards in soil erosion control."
At its July 2006 International Convention in Portland, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) selected Forest Concepts LLC’s WoodStraw wood-strand erosion control mulch as one of the most innovative products for 2005 in the 2006 AE50 Award Competition.
WoodStraw mulch is made from "fishtail" veneers of Douglas Fir that would normally be discarded and is provided in convenient bales of 50 pounds and commercial bales of 600 pounds. Compared to straw mulch, WoodStraw has been designed to be naturally weed-free, stable in windy conditions, a single application lasts up to 2 years or more which eliminates the cost of repeat applications, and it is ecologically preferred for use in forest environments. In addition to wildfire rehabilitation, WoodStraw has been used in construction and maintenance projects for building developments, roads, power lines and pipelines as well as mining and gravel operations.
