JOHNSON CITY, Texas/EWORLDWIRE/Nov. 15, 2006 --- Before the lighted parade and before the lighting of one of the largest displays of holiday lights in Texas, Whittington's Jerky & General Store greets the season with its fifth Annual Christmas Open House in Johnson City - where the food is plenty, music fills the air and Santa waits to have his picture taken with eager children.
On November 25 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., the Whittington family opens its doors and throws tents up and invites their regular customers and new ones to come celebrate the season. Beyond the family's hallmark jerky available for sampling, Whittington's prepares an array of tastebud tempting dishes incorporating the native Texas food items they carry in their two General Stores. This year finds wine tasting quenching the thirsts of enthusiatic patrons, enjoying the wares of the area's fine local wineries.
Families are invited to come out with bright-eyed children to enjoy this free event and Santa Clause from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. and to have a free picture taken.
Live music from some of the areas best groups will fill the air as local vendors bring custom-made goods to sell in the open market. A special area of books which are either written by a local author or have a specific tie to the Texas Hill Country offer book signings with local Texas authors. Kids' activities will keep the youngsters busy jumping and painting while adults indulge in good food, music and shop for perfect gift items.
This year, the local 4H club will be fundraising for its youth program through the sale of cutlery.
Recognizing their own blessings, The Whittingtons will be returning a percent of the proceeds of their open house to their community's Johnson City Community Education Scholarship Board. This board's main objective in time is to make sure every graduating student of LBJ High School recieves a scholarship towards higher eduaction.
One of the most popular attractions, the free shipping table, will be packed with items which can be shipped free of charge to anywhere.
Whittington's supports the U.S. troops stationed all over the world and really enjoy this opportunity to send them one of the most requested items from military personel - jerky.
