SAN DIEGO/EWORLDWIRE/Dec. 11, 2006 --- While in the Navy, a racist shipmate tried to kill Mason Weaver by dropping 2,800 pounds of metal on him. In the midst of anger and even hatred, Mason found The Power of Forgiveness, took control of his life and learned how to achieve - he penned "The Certificate of Forgiveness" and is taking stronger action in communicating its availability to the public and the media. "At 21-years old and permanently disabled, I did not sit back and complain about 'The White Man done done me wrong' - I took action to retrain myself to compete and rise up in America," said Mason Weaver.
'The Certificate of Forgiveness' reads in part, 'Now Therefore I, Mason Weaver, president of 'The National United Freedom Alliance,' being found to be a descendent of the aforementioned Black African slaves, do hereby, by the authority of my ancestry, certify that all guilt, shame, and debt (real or imagined) of ____________________ , found to be a descendent of white Europeans, is hereby forever forgiven and forgotten.'"
The Certificate of Forgiveness is designed to alleviate white guilt and black anger. According to Weaver, there are only two responses to past discrimination:
- One is the demand for payment or reparations
- The second is to forgive the debt
Weaver says, "Do not confuse forgiveness with surrender - this is not a docile action. It is a powerful action. We are not saying surrender because they are too powerful. We are saying forgive because they are not powerful enough to keep you down. There is no racial reconciliation without racial forgiveness. There is no real racial reconciliation until you have unconditional forgiveness."
Mason points to other conflicts around the world as examples. Some have sought revenge for hundreds of years and progress as a society has been hindered. However, countries that fight battles, then come to terms with and then trade with each other, prosper. The failure to forgive stunts the growth of civilizations as well as families.
"Racial differences provide the same conditions as war. Our nation moved on after the Revolutionary War, Civil War and WWII - but some people are still fighting the Civil War and cannot forgive. They have been stunted in their growth. Parts of black and white America are paralyzed with anger and frustration. The rest of America is heading for success; others are still debating an apology - it's time to forgive and take our place in the American culture."
