DALLAS/EWORLDWIRE/Feb. 19, 2007 --- This President's Day, DallasRally.com, the Dallas Peace Center and several North Texas groups will protest the escalation U.S. troops in Iraq in a march from the site of President's Kennedy assasination in downtown Dallas to the Federal Building which houses the U.S. military's recruitment office."The time for apathy has passed, the time to take to the streets has come, to show that 'the Decider' doesn't represent all Americans," said organizer Elise Adcock. "This is a democracy, not a dictatorship, and the people want this war, which never should have started, to end now. With more than 3,100 American troops dead, and more than 800 Iraqi casualties in just fourteen days into the month of February, it's time to have a dialogue about alternatives."
"As long as casualties continue to mount and American treasure - in lives and money - is wasted in what appears to most Americans to be a losing proposition," said Hadi Jawad, chair of the "End the Occupation of Iraq" Committee at the Dallas Peace Center, "resistance to this war will continue to grow, allowing folks on the fence to step down and join those calling for peace. President Bush's rehashed "stay the course" plan in Iraq by escalating troop levels will cause more waste in lives and dollars."
According to John Wolf of the Crawford Peace House, "a recent USA Today/Gallup poll, 56 percent of Americans think sending troops to Iraq was a mistake in the first place. A CBS poll recently found that 68 percent disapprove of Bush's current strategy. Last fall's election of a Democratic Congress proved that the Americans are ready for change, and not the kind that involves invading yet another country. Peace is our only security."
"The world has shrunk to the size of a small village, where homes are bunched up close together," said Jawad. "To set fire to a neighbor's house and not expect to be consumed by the same fire is not only naïve, it is delusional."
