DELAWARE COUNTY/MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA/EWORLDWIRE/Jan. 23, 2008 --- Veteran Radnor Township GOP Commissioner and longtime community leader Lisa Paolino today announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 17th Senatorial District of Pennsylvania. In 1999 Paolino was the first woman in Radnor history elected to a full four-year term as Commissioner; she has served as Vice-President of the Board since 2003. She serves as Chair of the Parks & Recreation Committee and as a member of the Finance & Audit, Open Space, Public Health, and Library Committees. She has two children and lives in Bryn Mawr.
The 17th State Senate District is currently represented by Sen. Connie Williams, who has announced her retirement.
If elected, Paolino says she wants to send a clear and concise message to Harrisburg: "Lower our taxes, streamline our government, recruit employers for jobs in our area and preserve Open Space."
Given the make-up of the 17th District, Paolino said another key for her will be to help redevelop blighted neighborhoods, provide affordable housing and healthcare, assist area seniors, encourage excellence in education and improve the state's transportation systems. In addition, Paolino, 46, has consistently advocated transparent, open and participatory government with solid constituent services.
"As a working, single mother of two grown children, I understand the dynamics of raising a family. These include the demands of affordable housing and taxes along with parenting and educating our children in a safe, healthy environment. Together we can create a brighter future," she said.
Paolino is a graduate of Villanova University with more than 20 years of professional business experience, most recently as vice president of operations and marketing for Mace Securities. She also serves as vice-chair of the American Red Cross Board of Directors SEPA Chapter and the Board of Directors of the Wayne Art Center.
As a Commissioner, Paolino has worked to hold the line on taxes. She has worked to acquire more than 50 acres of open space and is a liaison with the Radnor Conservancy, working to secure open space on one of the largest remaining parcels of farmland in the area. She also introduced regulations restricting placement of cellular towers and wireless communications facilities.
Paolino completed two notable projects with Penn DOT, including the sound barrier retrofit along Rte. 476 and the award winning Radnor Rails to Trails Project.
She is currently working closely with Lower Merion Township, Penn DOT, and Main Line Health officials to initiate a major redesign of one of the most important intersections in the surrounding area for improved access, safety and overall functionality.
The 17th State Senate District is comprised of Radnor and Haverford townships in Delaware County, and the towns of Bridgeport, Conshohocken, West Conshohocken, Narberth, Norristown, East Norriton, Lower Merion, Plymouth and Upper Merion in Montgomery County.
