Said Ford, "A Justice Reform Committee is being established to manage a reporting network which will include Innocence Projects, public defenders, and anyone that works for the defense. Our intentions are to monitor attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and prosecutors for violations of public trust." Individuals and defense personnel will report violations, and the cases will be monitored and evaluated as to taxpayer costs related to unnecessary prosecution and for damages to innocent individuals. Steps will be taken within the justice system to create legislation to impose fines, termination, and possible jail time for prosecutors that violate discovery. According to Ford, "There are so many cases where prosecutors willfully withhold evidence, causing unethical delays in proceedings and wrongful convictions. Prosecutors who have the narcissistic desire to win-at-all-costs to bolster their records should have the same rules imposed on them as the innocent people that they wrongfully jail. Prosecutors have this win-at-all-costs attitude because they feel people want them to be tough on crime, but I believe that most people want them to put the right person in jail." The taxpayers and District Attorney's (DA) office in Dallas County, Texas, has established a no-nonsense policy, like the one Ford proposes, to be the standard. "The Texas DA there has been working with innocence projects and defense attorneys to test DNA results. He has engaged discovery violations in his own office, and set free many wrongfully convicted people. These individuals had spent decades in custody. This DA has terminated dishonest prosecutors and is even seeking fines and imprisonment of any district attorneys who violate discovery." Most states now have some type of compensation for wrongfully convicted people. These penalties can be up to $100 per day for wrongfully convicted inmates once they are acquitted. "Taxpayers have to start electing the right people to represent their interests. Prolonged prosecution due to discovery violations and fighting exoneration in cases where DNA has cleared individuals is too costly. This is especially the case when the DA is continuing to fight turning over discovery and exoneration only because they want to win at all costs and exhaust indigent inmates finances and resources," says Ford. Ford is encouraging defense attorneys, innocence projects, and concerned individuals to contact his office by e-mail and send case information and prosecutors names so that these cases can be documented.
