SUCCASUNNA, N.J./EWORLDWIRE/Feb. 25, 2009 --- The Sturge-Weber Foundation (SWF) ('http://www.sturge-weber.org') will host a tribute dinner sponsored by a lengthy list of pharmaceutical and research firms and laboratories at the Intercontinental Hotel, 888 Howard Street, San Francisco, Calif., to honor dermatologist Christopher B. Zachary, FRCP, on March 6, 2009.The Sturge-Weber Foundation, (SWF) founded in 1987, is an international organization serving individuals and families affected by Sturge-Weber syndrome and other port wine birthmark conditions, with education, research, public information and friendly support.
"Each year the SWF honors a doctor who has made an impact on the field of dermatology, nominated by his or her peers," according to Karen K. Ball, SWF CEO.
Dr. Zachary, who hails originally from Yorkshire, U.K., studied at the Royal Free Hospital, and at the Institute of Dermatology at Guys and St. Thomas Hospitals in London. He then went on to formal surgical education at the University of Michigan. He returned to the U.K. to set up the first Mohs and Laser Surgery unit in London.
From 1988 to 1997, Dr. Zachary was with the Department of Dermatology, University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is currently professor and chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of California at Irvine.
Dr. Zachary has published many articles on diseases of the skin, both research and clinical, and is a regular contributor to academic meetings both in the USA and abroad.
His interest in lasers has led to significant industry supported research in optimal laser systems for cutaneous surgery and the development of new laser systems for facial rejuvenation.
