For Immediate Release

BETHESDA, Md./EWORLDWIRE/March 25, 2010 --- Delivery of the first cellular-enabled glucose meter by Maryland-based Telcare Inc. ('http://www.telcare.com') has drawn the inventor a winning position in the CTIA Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Awards. Second prize was awarded in the Healthcare Enterprise and Vertical Market Solutions category.

CTIA's fifth annual E-Tech Awards program recognizes products in 15 categories in the areas of mobile consumer electronics, luxury mobile, applications, enterprise, green solutions and network technology. International CTIA WIRELESS 2010(R) is currently taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

More than 80 prominent media and industry analysts judged the 300-plus entries submitted for the E-Tech Awards program this year. Products and services were judged on innovation, functionality, technological importance, implementation and the overall "wow" factor.

E-Tech Awards winners were announced at a ceremony hosted by Robert Mesirow, vice president and show director for CTIA, and Tim Bajarin, president of Creative Strategies, on the show floor.

Telcare's blood glucose meter is designed to serve the needs of the 28 million Americans with diabetes who use home glucose meters to test their blood sugar on a daily basis. The embedded cellular component transmits glucose results to Telcare's secure server and relays guidance and clinical coaching from the caregiver to the patient on the screen of the meter. From Telcare's server, the data can be relayed, with the patient's permission, to doctors offices, to personal health records such as Google Health and Microsoft Health Vault, and to cell phones of involved family members, such as the parents of children with diabetes and the adult children of elderly persons with diabetes. While the Telcare glucose meter has not yet been cleared by FDA for sale in the United States, at CTIA the company demonstrated working connectivity between the meter, various cell phones, and Google Health's development platform.

Care for diabetes and its complications cost the United States $300 million annually and it is hoped that mHealth solutions such as this may help to improve compliance with care and reduce the frequency of complications including stroke, heart attack, blindness, and amputation.

Telcare ('http://www.telcare.com') is a Maryland startup company founded in 2008 by Dr. Jonathan Javitt, John Dwyer and David Bjork. The three founders were members of the team that founded Active Health Management, which was acquired by Aetna Inc. in 2005. Prior to Telcare, Dr. Javitt led the initiative to define federal policy for nationwide adoption of electronic medical records in President Bush's Executive Office of the President, and he served as a Chair of the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Dr. Javitt previously served as a senior health advisor in the Clinton administration and is an adjunct Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Telcare has been selected for funding by the State of Maryland mTech program and has just been named a nominee for a State of Maryland Biotechnology Award. The company is funded by private investment.

"We at Telcare are grateful to the CTIA its early recognition of the profound effect that wireless healthcare solutions may have in transforming American healthcare. This week Congress focused on reducing the rapid rise in healthcare costs while attempting to extend coverage to uninsured Americans. We believe that connecting physicians and patients via wireless technologies in order to make healthcare a continuous and empowering process, rather than an episodic and overly expensive one, is critical to the health of Americans and to solving our nation's healthcare crisis,"said Dr. Javitt.
