The Coalition of Skin Disease (CSD) is comprised of 24 organizations focused on skin disorders. It was established in 1986 to create awareness on the severe lack of skin disease research funding. The CSD raises awareness of the financial, emotional and familial impact of skin diseases on millions of Americans. The CSD also works closely with the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) to coordinate efforts for all skin diseases to improve the quality of life for individuals affected by a skin disease. Says Ball, who, with her husband Kirk, started the Foundation 18 years ago, "This is one of the alliances that the SWF has forged over the years that make us all stronger." The Sturge-Weber Foundation has funded, as well as facilitated, over 1.3 million dollars in research funding for Sturge-Weber syndrome alone.
