(ISI), manufacturer of technologically advanced respiratory protection devices, has introduced the ISI Frontier, the first low-cost, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) designed for everyday law enforcement use.

The ISI Frontier defines a new category of law enforcement SCBAs by combining high-performance features with simplicity of use and maintenance – all at the lowest cost of ownership of any available SCBA. The device is built and priced for deployment as standard equipment that can be carried in the trunk of every patrol car.

A national ISI survey of law enforcement agencies found that SCBAs are increasingly used by officers in the field, with the most frequent uses being in drug enforcement situations (especially methamphetomine labs) and in dealing with hazardous materials.

The new ISI Frontier provides a protection factor of 10,000 to one and uses ISI’s patented, positive-pressure, compact demand valve (CDV) to deliver high air-flow rates far exceeding NIOSH and NFPA standards and significantly reducing breathing resistance. A shoulder-mounted, low-pressure alarm is standard equipment.

Available with either a snug, comfortable facemask or a positive-pressure hood (for users with facial hair or eyeglasses), the ISI Frontier’s ergonomic design also features a lightweight backframe with built-in carry handles.

With very few moving parts, the rugged ISI Frontier is simple to maintain and can be serviced easily in the field. It can accommodate cylinders rated at 2216 or 4500 psi, with cylinder durations of 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

Optional equipment includes an airline attachment for extending use with supplied air, a manual bypass for emergency egress, a “buddy breather” for sharing air supply, lightweight cylinders, and a carry case.
