Media Advisory
The Conference brings together children and adults with Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS), Port Wine Stain conditions (PWS) and Klippel-Trenaunay (KT) syndrome, along with their families and relatives. Professionals in the fields of neurology, dermatology and ophthalmology will provide educational outreach and consultations. Attendees will be able to gather educational information, meet with other families and develop personal connections. For some children and adults, this is the first time they will meet other persons with these rare disorders. The Sturge-Weber Foundation, founded in 1987, is the only international organization addressing the needs of individuals and families concerned about SWS, PWS and KT. The Conference includes workshops, informal meetings, and recreational activities. The SWF has provided $30,000 in scholarship assistance to enable families to attend the conference, some coming from all over the United States, from Puerto Rico and Canada, and from Bulgaria, Mexico and India. Scholarships were made possible by a grant from the MDRT Foundation, two large anonymous gifts, supporting contributions from Handleman Company, Western Termite and Pest control, and Candela Corporation and many personal contributions from SWF members. In-kind support for the Conference was supplied by YakPak, a manufacturer of specialty tote bags, NikeTiming, Get Movin' Parties, Environmental Associates, CVS Pharmacy, Rainforest Cafe, The Honda Center, BDF Beiersdorf, Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Exceptional Parent magazine and the Fresnel Prism and Lens Co.
