Dec. 1 Event: Governor Perdue Declares December 1 As National Society Of High School Scholars Day

Program to honor students and educators includes a college admissions panel discussion and a performance by Emory University's acclaimed all-male a capella singing group at 1:00 p.m. in the Cecil B. Day Chapel at The Carter Center.

ATLANTA/EWORLDWIRE/Nov. 28, 2007 --- Governor Sonny Perdue has declared December 1, 2007, The National Society of High School Scholars Day in honor of a special Scholar Event and college fair being held that day at The Carter Center in Atlanta. This occasion honors outstanding high school student members from across the United States and educators from Georgia. The theme of the event is Learn, Lead, Change the World, and the featured speaker is Claes Nobel, senior member of the Nobel family which established the Nobel Prizes, and Chair of the NSHSS Advisory Board.

Other notable speakers include Michael Lomax, Ph.D., president and CEO of the United Negro College Fund, and top executives from Abercrombie & Fitch, IBM and Sallie Mae. Senator Isakson's and Senator Chambliss' offices will also offer remarks, and President Bush has sent a congratulatory letter to the NSHSS members.

The program also will include of a panel discussion with college admissions representatives from:

The panel discussion will be moderated by Nancy Beane, college counselor at Westminster High School in Atlanta. After the program, students will have the opportunity to meet and speak directly with these college representatives. During the program, "No Strings Attached," Emory's acclaimed all-male a capella singing group will perform. The event will take place at 1:00 p.m. in the Cecil B. Day Chapel at The Carter Center.

Along with member recognition of the students attending, Mr. Nobel will present scholarships to the following members:

Currently, the NSHSS has members in the United States and 120 countries representing 22,000 high schools and has awarded over $300,000 in scholarships.
