New NGO Working for Working Mothers-Mothers To Award Mother-friendly Companies

For Immediate Release
MAKATI, Phillipines/EWORLDWIRE/Aug. 8, 2008 --- A newly-formed NGO, Working for Working Mothers (WoW-Mothers), today announced its recognition awards program to distinguish and reward Philippine-based companies who are doing more to support the working mothers they employ. WoW Mothers was formed to address issues that uniquely confront Filipino mothers in the workplace.

The WoW-Mothers Certificate of Recognition was developed to help raise awareness of the issues Filipino working mothers face in the workplace, and to encourage the implementation of workplace programs to address those issues. The organization uses six main selection criteria: schedule flexibility, maternity leave policy, Working Mothers' Rooms for breastfeeding or milk expression in the workplace, access to child-care centers, role of women decision-makers, and over-all workplace environment.

Given working mothers' critical impact on the health and nutritional status of children even while at work, WoW-Mothers seeks to raise awareness in the Philippines about the existing social, economic and cultural conditions
that working mothers face daily. The organization - supported by a network of women business leaders and women's advocates - is committed to reshaping business and government policies so that working mothers have more and better options for combining achievement on the job with a successful home life.

"Working mothers are under-valued for their time spent at work while tasked with caring for families at the same time," said Helen Macasaet, president of WoW-Mothers. "Our Mother-Friendly Employer award helps to highlight the companies that are working to ensure a supportive workplace environment for working mothers among their employees."

Working for Working Mothers is an innovative problem-solver organization dedicated to upholding and promoting every Filipino mother's right to work and care for her family, and to access information and tools to provide for her family from the workplace. Workng with leaders in government and business, WoW-Mothers aims for real and practical results to address the challenges of working Filipino mothers.
