BOSTON/EWORLDWIRE/Aug. 14, 2008 --- Sam - The Alaskan Assassin Hoger, star of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, returns to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action after more than 16 months away from the sport. Hoger, a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight contender, is poised to return to action on September 19 at World Championship Fighting 4 being held in Wilmington, Mass. Competing in the Light Heavyweight division, Hoger advanced to the semi-finals of the show where he was eliminated by the eventual winner of the show and current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin.
Fans of the TV show couldn't get enough of Hoger's brash comments and audacious behavior on camera and flocked to Mixed Martial Arts forums and blogs to write about, and even bash, Hoger's persona on the show.
For all the headlines Hoger made throughout the show, he was able to put the negative hype aside when he faced a much more experienced Bobby Southworth on the live finale of The Ultimate Fighter. Having been considered the best Light Heavyweight at the beginning of the show by most MMA experts, Southworth was a heavy favorite heading into the fight. Hoger surprised fans and experts alike with a game plan that frustrated his opponent and led Hoger to a stunning victory over the heavily favored Southworth.
After taking some time off to open his own MMA academy, Miletich Fighting Systems Houston, Hoger looks to return to Mixed Martial Arts in a big way by making his presence known in the World Championship Fighting organizations heavyweight division. "I can't wait to get back in the ring! Its been a long time so I just want to get back out there and show everyone what I can do." Regarding his upcoming fight Hoger said, "I'm excited about fighting for World Championship Fighting! They're one of the biggest shows on the East Coast. I'm not looking past my opponent [Braden Bice], but I plan on making big waves in the MMA world again and this will be my first step."
