WHAT: Press Conference WHEN: Monday, November 10, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. WHERE: Earl Cabell Federal Building - Across the street from main courthouse entrance, 1100 Commerce Street, Dallas, Texas 75202 WHO: The Hungry for Justice Coalition (H4J) is an ad hoc committee to organize local and national support for the defendants in the Holy Land Foundation federal trial. Its members include: Dallas Peace Center, Muslim American Society, American Muslim Task Force, American Muslim Alliance, Bill of Rights Defense Committee, A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition, Muslim Legal Fund of America, Council on American-Islamic Relations, League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the Green Party-Dallas chapter. Lon Burnam, director of the Dallas Peace Center said, "We have faith in our system of justice but not in the Bush Justice Department. Like in the original trial, we saw the prosecution use unconstitutional rules of evidence such as unsigned and undated documents with no chain of custody, and secret foreign expert witnesses whose authority and credibility had to be accepted without question. This is abuse of power and justice denied." Closing arguments are scheduled to begin on Monday, November 10, 2008 for the Holy Land Foundation (HLF). As an American charitable organization, HLF gave humanitarian aid around the world, predominately in the Palestinian territories. It is currently under retrial for allegedly supporting Hamas by feeding hungry children in Palestine. The first trial of Holy Land Foundation ended in a mistrial in October of 2007. "We believe the historical election of Senator Barack Hussein Obama offers America an opportunity to go beyond the historically insular attitudes towards those of different ethnicities, other colors, national origin or For one-on-one media interviews, call Lydia Gonzalez Welch at 214-704-8383 HUNGRY FOR JUSTICE Contact:
religious affiliation. Now is the time to shake off the prejudicial view of the Bush administration in targeting Islamic charitable organizations under the so-called War on Terror cloud which has shown to be nothing more
than inflammatory rhetoric and accusations without merit," said Khalil Meek, spokesman for Hungry for Justice.
