Oct. 23: mdi joins Industry Leaders on SUPERCOMM 2009 Panel, Taming the Uncertainty of 10/40/100Gbps Network Migration

Verizon and Nokia Siemens Networks leaders in optical networking offer key learnings, solutions to emerging 10/40/100Gbps operational challenges.

Media Advisory

FOUNTAIN, Mich./EWORLDWIRE/Oct. 15, 2009 --- mdi (Monitoring Division Inc.), the leader in real-time network monitoring and intelligence, today announced that it will join three industry leaders on the only SUPERCOMM panel to address the challenges of migrating carrier networks to 10G, 40G and 100Gbps.

The first 10G network transmissions exhibited previously unknown problems and signal impairments, such as dual pulses associated with PMD, and infrastructure managers had to learn how to deal with them. The panel will show how to tame the uncertainty of migrating to mesh networks and 40/100 Gbps transmission speeds, and will blend past lessons learned and innovative diagnostic solutions (i.e., finding in-situ optical impairments in real-time). Panelists will also discuss the emerging challenge of predicting the lifetime of a fiber network, by posing and answering the question: are we building future networks on a "house of cards", based on fiber that is aging out?

What: Taming the Uncertainty of 10/40/100G Network Migration

When: 10/23/09 from 12:20 p.m. to 1:05 p.m.

Where: W183c

Who:
Glenn Wellbrock, Director of Backbone Network Design at Verizon
Kaveh Hushyar, telecommunications entrepreneur and advisor, former officer and Vice President of Network Planning & Engineering with AT&T
Jim Benson, Head of DWDM Sales, North America with Nokia Siemens Networks
David Wright, President and CEO, mdi

About mdi

mdi was created to fill critical gaps in network diagnostics for carriers migrating from SONET to WDM. mdi's in-service monitoring software is the first to provide real-time insight into new and upgraded fiber networks, and lays the groundwork for smart networks. The company's tools let telecom systems vendors, carriers and technicians quickly and cost-effectively characterize fiber assets in 10G, 40G and 100G networks, easily find impairments, and continuously manage high-speed networks. Founded in 2007, mdi (Monitoring Division, Inc.) has offices in Sunnyvale, Calif. and Melbourne, Australia. For more information, visit MonitoringDivision.com ('http://www.monitoringdivision.com').
