Independent Film, Waiting for ... BUDD, From Hudson Film Group Moves Audiences From Hoboken, N.J., to Accolade and Staten Island Film Festival, for Awards

Multiple award-winning documentary honored with Accolade Award (La Jolla, Calif.) and SIFF Award (New York)

For Immediate Release

NEW YORK/EWORLDWIRE/June 10, 2010 --- Walking in the footsteps of film celebrities to record the inside story of a more than half-century old live performance is what became the tale of success for Garry Pastore and Deborah Mello, founders of Hudson Film Group of Jersey City.

The pair's multiple award-winning documentary short film, Waiting for BUDD, has won the Award of Merit from The Accolades Competition in La Jolla, Calif., and was honored with The Audience Choice Award at the Staten Island Film Festival (SIFF) in New York on Sunday evening, June 6, at a star-studded closing night ceremony.

The film has also garnered best picture and best director awards in its class at the New York International Film Festival.

When a group of 20 actors staged a live performance of the legendary Broadway play, On the Waterfront, during the summer of July 2009, Pastore and crew were compiling behind-the-scenes footage and interviews which document the actors including Sopranos' stars Jason Cerbone, Vincent Pastore, Al Sapienza and Robert Funaro, the producers, and director Frank Licato. The performance was scheduled for two nights, outdoors, in Hoboken, N.J., and, while the actors enjoyed beautiful weather the first evening, the second evening they encountered an uninvited monsoon.

"The inspiration for the documentary was sparked by a visit from the original screenwriter of, On the Waterfront, Budd Schulberg," said Director Garry Pastore. "He surprised all of us with an unexpected showing to attend the second evening's performance - at the age of 95."

The 1954 film recording which won eight Academy Awards was also shot in Hoboken. Among those chosen were Budd Schulberg for best story and screenplay, Marlon Brando for best actor, and Eva Marie Saint for best supporting actress.

A short week after the July 2009 performances, Schulberg passed away. Pastore chose to title the short film Waiting for BUDD, "in honor of an icon, a great man and a legend, Mr. Budd Schulberg."

Actors Vincent Pastore, Nick Puccio and Frank Licato co-produced the film with Hudson Film Group.
