Jan. 1: At-Risk New York Kids to Benefit from Gaulman Tours Travel Program

Fundraising campaign kicks off

Media Advisory

JAMAICA, N.Y./EWORLDWIRE/Jan. 1, 2013 --- Gaulman Tours is taking on the toughest of projects and the most aggressive of fundraising goals: in partnership with the juvenile justice system and other agencies in the area, identify youth who could benefit from a two-year program, operated by a $300,000 endowment from public donors.

A fundraising campaign kicks off January 1, 2013, that seeks to collect donations from the public to operate what founder Sharon Gaulman hopes will open new doors - and expand the horizon - for dozens of children who otherwise would never leave their neighborhoods.

"We aim to provide trips to a range of destinations across the United States - from the Supreme Court, to historic tours to Pennsylvania Amish country, to whale watching," stated Gaulman. "We'll help children leave their community and venture to other places that they have read about in school or have dreamed about.

"The experience will show them firsthand how there is life beyond their street corner or better choices to be made, and help them learn what they can do to change the direction of their life."

Candidate youth will be evaluated across a range of criteria. Those who are selected will be a part of the program for two years, which Gaulman believes is sufficient time to provide exposure, adult intervention and long-term guidance to have meaningful impact on each participant's life.

To ensure the program is ready for a summer 2013 launch, funds need to be raised by February 28, 2013. Money raised will be used to provide the necessary staff, housing, food - and a souvenir t-shirt - among many other elements of the program.

The program will begin with the first children in August 2013.
