APRIL 5-7: National School Board Association's 2014 Technology Innovation Showcase to Feature BirdBrain Technologies' Hummingbird Robotics Kit

Carnegie Mellon University students developed as part of Art & Bots, an ongoing research project

Media Advisory

PITTSBURGH/EWORLDWIRE/April 4, 2014 --- BirdBrain Technologies' Hummingbird Robotics Kit has been selected to appear in the National School Board Association's 2014 Technology Innovation Showcase.

As part of this selection, BirdBrain Technologies will be featured in an exclusive area of the NSBA Annual Conference in New Orleans, April 5-7, 2014. Later this spring, the Hummingbird Robotics Kit will be featured in NSBA's magazine for school leaders, American School Board Journal, and participate in a webinar hosted by NSBA's Technology Leadership Network (TLN).

"The Technology Innovation Showcase was created to highlight emerging companies that are using new technologies for products or services in K-12 education in ways that were virtually impossible to deliver otherwise," said Thomas J. Gentzel, NSBA's executive director. "The 2014 companies serve as a reminder to always look for new approaches to old challenges."

The Hummingbird Robotics Kit was developed as part of Art & Bots, an ongoing research project at Carnegie Mellon University. Compatible with popular maker tools and software like Raspberry Pi, MaKey MaKey, and Scratch, Hummingbird introduces students to engineering design, electronics, and programming through an innovative, arts & crafts-based approach that integrates well with the core subjects.

"NSBA's remarkable recognition solidifies our commitment to technological excellence and our dedication to students and educators. It fuels our passion to instill an innovative maker mentality in students and to foster a project-based learning approach in everyday classrooms," said Tom Lauwers, BirdBrain Technologies founder and co-creator of the Hummingbird Robotics Kit. "At BirdBrain, we are devoted to integrating engineering and computer science with traditional core subjects by creating robots and electronics that can foster natural interdisciplinary projects."

The Hummingbird Robotics Kit is changing the dynamics of everyday classrooms by integrating computer science and engineering with projects in subjects like history, math, language arts, science, art, character education, and more. Learn more at http://www.birdbraintechnologies.com.
