American Idol Winner to Sing National Anthem for 9/11 Memorial Service in D.C.

Washington, D.C./EWORLDWIRE/September 3, 2002 --- Champions of Hope is pleased to announce that the winner of America's hit television show "American Idol, Search for A Superstar" will be singing the National Anthem on September 11th for the "United Day of Service" ceremony honoring those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and New York.

In his radio address last week, President George W. Bush asked all citizens throughout the country to dedicate this month as the "September of Service." He asked all citizens to dedicate at least 4,000 hours of service to their communities, their country, and to the world especially young people so that they can learn how important service is to our nation.

The United Day of Service Ceremony will be held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. on September 11th at 4:00pm. This day earmarks the coming together of youth from all 50 states and from all over the world. This special day begins the "Seasons of Hope" campaign, which emphasizes President Bush's appeal for citizens, particularly youth, to build a stronger America through service.

The winner will be officially announced on Wednesday, September 4, 2002, on Fox at 8-10pm EST. The winner will sing the national anthem on September 11 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, to kick-off the United Day of Service Ceremony.
