San Francisco, CA/EWORLDWIRE/December 6, 2002 --- For more than 4 consecutive months Stephanie and Stephen Mountford, former London Police Officers, have been cycling non-stop on their tandem bicycle. Over mountains and deserts, through cities and farms they were determined to reach their destination- San Francisco!

The Mountford's set out on their 6,000-mile, 100-day "Coast to Coast 2002" tandem bicycle trek across the United States to raise money and awareness for the Children's Leukemia Foundation. Stephen and Stephanie will set their feet - and wheels - in San Francisco on December 7, 2002 as they cycle into the city. Joining them are bike clubs from Santa Cruz and San Francisco Bay area. Together they will ride to Crissy Field where more well wishers and cyclists will be on hand!

The ride, which started on August 25th in Central Park, New York City, covered approximately 6,000 miles - leading the couple through Niagara Falls, Chicago, Kansas, New Orleans, Texas, Phoenix, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Death Valley and Los Angeles, to finish in San Francisco on December 10th.

"We began the ride as an effort to raise awareness for bone marrow donors and to provide aid to sufferers of leukemia," said Stephanie Mountford. "On September 11, close friends were struck with the death of their five year old son, a tragedy that might have been averted had a suitable donor been found.

"This has been an amazing adventure for Stephanie and myself. We have had such a warm reception from the American People. Our hearts have been touched with the kindness and hospitality we have been shown," stated Stephen.

"The Mountford's fundraising efforts is an inspiration to us all," said Steven Shor, CEO of the National Children's Leukemia Foundation. "The drive, energy and strength this couple possesses is overwhelming, and the NCLF was honored and touched when they called and wanted to do this amazing trek for the kids."

The couple will be receiving a certificate of honor for their accomplishment by Mayor Willie Brown. Stephen and Stephanie will be available for interviews at Crissy Field and through the 11th of December.
