Boulder stop underscores Colorado Senator Michael F. Bennet's support of Eye to Eye and participation in final stop of Tour at its Young Leaders Organizing Institute on July 31

Media Advisory

BOULDER, Colo./EWORLDWIRE/July 19, 2013 --- For individuals who struggle with the implications of being labeled learning disabled, ADHD or dyslexic, the Boulder stop on the LD / ADHD STRIKE OUT STIGMA NATIONAL TOUR is a physical manifestation of a movement that is doing more than lifting their spirits.

For Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, the TOUR has personal significance - he had his own experience with dyslexia.

Embarked on by five college students, the 12-day, nearly 3,200 mile trip is aimed at driving attention, literally, to the misconceptions surrounding learning disabilities, ADHD and dyslexia, and to transform the public conversation - "strike out the stigma" - of the labels, and to empower others.

The 5 college students, Eye to Eye mentors, set off from San Francisco on Friday, July 19, and will finish their journey in Providence, R.I., where Sen. Bennet will present opening remarks (via recorded message) at the 9th Annual Eye to Eye Young Leaders Organizing Institute - the organization's biggest event that brings together over 100 chapter leaders from across the U.S.

Boulder is 1 of 9 key stops along the route. The Tuesday, July 23 Schedule in Boulder is:

July 23, 2013

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

THINK DIFFERENT DIPLOMATS @ CU Boulder (Mathematics Building, Room 100, Colorado Ave & Folsom St., Boulder, CO 80302)
3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The cross-country tour is a continuation of the students' volunteer mentoring work with Eye to Eye, for which these passionate and empowered youth conceptualized and proposed the idea, and who are completely responsible for the planning and execution of the campaign. Their progress will be shared on social media at:

A complete Eye to Eye LD / ADHD STRIKE OUT STIGMA NATIONAL TOUR schedule is available at http://eyetoeyenational.org/programs/tour-schedule-2013.html.

The primary objectives of the national tour are to:

- Raise awareness about what it means to have an LD / ADHD.
- Empower those living with LDs / ADHD to take ownership of their labels.
- Share their story so as to "strike out stigma" by shedding a light on the misconceptions surrounding LDs / ADHD.

"The message of the Eye to Eye LD / ADHD STRIKE OUT STIGMA NATIONAL TOUR sparks a very personal chord, as we've found in the response and support from national leaders such as Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet and California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom. That these leaders are willing to share their stories of LD empowers others to tell theirs," stated Eye to Eye co-founder and Chief Empowerment Officer David Flink. "For those who have not experienced these different ways of learning themselves, they are sure to know someone who has struggled because of these labels. We are out to change the conversation about learning disabilities, ADHD and dyslexia - now that our young leaders are on the road, we are seeing so many coming to rally with us. This is truly a remarkable time."

Eye to Eye is the only national LD / ADHD movement dedicated to mentoring. Eye to Eye does much more to reach many more people with the organization's message. In addition to establishing core mentor/mentee relationships, Eye to Eye brings people together both inside and outside the LD / ADHD community.

Colorado Eye to Eye chapters are hosted at:

- Colorado State University (partnered with Lincoln Middle School, Fort Collins)
- University of Denver (partnered with Slavens School, Denver)
- Cherry Creek High School (partnered with Cherry Hills Village Elementary, Cherry Hills)
- Peak to Peak Charter School, Lafayette (no partner school, K-12 school)

The Eye to Eye (http://www.eyetoeyenational.org) vision is simple yet bold: to create a world in which people with LD/ADHD are fully accepted, valued, and respected - not just by society but also by themselves, that they live free from second thoughts or worry, and that they are ready, able and eager to apply their unique strengths to whatever they encounter in life.

Eye to Eye is determined to expand the safe space of its art rooms into society at large by normalizing LD/ADHD through open and honest conversation about it. The LD / ADHD Strike Out Stigma National Tour is a physical embodiment of this movement.
