MONTREAL, Quebec Canada/EWORLDWIRE/Aug. 18, 2014 --- The most expensive film ever made in Kyrgyzstan, filled with passion, intrigue, bloody battle scenes, spectacular landscapes and lavish costumes, Kurmanjan Datka Queen of the Mountains (http://www.kurmanjan.com) is set to world premiere at the Montreal World Film Festival. The film is the relevant epic story of the noblewoman, Kurmanjan, who is revered to this day for her diplomacy for saving her nation from complete destruction when Russian imperial forces conquered the Central Asian country in the 1870s.

The world premiere screening will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at the Cinema Cineplex Odeon Quartier Latin, located at 350 Rue Émery, Montreal, Quebec.

Selected by the festival in Focus on World Cinema category, the film, in the local language of Kyrgyz with English subtitles, was written by Sadyk Sher-Niyaz. The film marks Sher-Niyaz' feature directorial debut. Set in 19th century Central Asia, the historical, epic drama tells the true story of Kurmanjan Datka, a strong willed woman, who becomes the ruler of her country and saves the nation from total destruction. As a young woman she is forced into an arranged marriage but escapes, flees to the mountains, and falls in love with the local chief Alymbek, whom she marries. When he is killed by political rivals, she becomes the "queen of the mountains" and a key figure in the national struggle, when the Russians invade.

The film, produced by Kyrgyz Film and Aitysh Film, is backed by Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambaev and Minister of Culture Sultan Raev. With a monumental budget of $1.5 million, this release is the most expensive film ever made in the country. The film was shot on digital Red Epic film and stars four top Kyrgyz actresses as the lead at different stages of her life:

- Little girl: Aibek Kokeev
- Young woman: Elina Abai Kyzy
- Middle-aged mother: Nazira Mambetova
- Old woman: Jamal Seidakmatova

Shot on location in various parts of beautiful country of Kyrgyzstan, the film included a very rare occasion: St. Petersburg's Square in front of the Winter Palace in Russia shut down for filming. Over the 10,000 people were involved in production in front of and behind the camera.

The star of the film, Elina Abai Kyzy - who portrays Kurmanjan Datka as a young woman, director Sadyk Sher-Niyaz, producer Zhyldyzkan Dzholdoshova and associate producer Brett Syson, along with an interpreter, Asel Sherniyazova will be in attendance at the film festival and available for interviews.
